As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I have a legal and ethical responsibility to make every effort to protect the personal information of my clients. However, the use of technology, including emailing me directly or using my website contact form has inherent privacy risks. Despite use of technologies compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and maintaining website SSL certificates, there is always some risk that electronic communications may be compromised or accessed by others. Email and webpage contact forms should not be used to share information such as date of birth, government or health insurance identification numbers or to share detailed personal information.
